It's either bacon or some kind of mineral/material that could have a lot of worth in both objective and subjective perspectives, like bacon.
Let's say some kind of melted coin, or maybe iodide potassium tablets (AKA anti-radiation tablets). DIBS ON THE IDEA. PATENTS PENDING.

WOAHWOAHWOAH?!? BACON WAS MY IDEA ORIGINALLY, YOU THIEF!! I'MMA SUE YOUR ASS FOR EVERYTHING YOU HAVE!
INCLUDING YOUR COPYRIGHT NOTICE 'CAUSE THAT'S ALSO STOLEN FROM ME!
Belt buckles are not valuable. Pencil graphite is too weak. Tissues are not valuable. Electronic scrap is useless since EMP. Pork chops totally lose against bacon. Minecraft sucks dick.

I've been wondering... - Page 2 Empty Ideas for what currency COULD be used in G.P

Post by EliteHunter39 Sat Mar 01, 2014 2:07 am

These are my ideas for what currency that COULD be used in G.P

Zombie Bones, Speakers, Car Tires, Paper ( actually paper would be quite rare and would fetch a price because, nuclear pretty much burns anything flammable, and would paper can be used to craft maps, notes etc ), Star Wars CDs, Clocks, Goggles, Working Laptops, Badges? ( As In the ones that are pinned to your shirt ), Medals, Ribbons, Pencil Erasers, Door Knobs, Empty Gun Magazines..

For me the best one are Empty Gun Magazines

Btw,

Never did Metro (any), but, crafting is crafting, why restrict it.
It's bound to be, that "some" items , could be irradiated.
Correct me if mistaken, please.

What JetCutter said is right, you said yourself Iosif that irradiated items would lose it's rad in tens of thousands of years. And I think that Jetcutter has a point where you can use those irradiated bullets in a gun, to radiate your enemy to death, problem is, the longer the time you hold on to those irradiated bullets, the better the chance to get radiation sickness unless you have a Haz Mat suit or an Anti Rad thing.

Yes irradiated items will keep their radiation for a very long time, depending on how (technically what kind of radiation they have) they were irradiated, but the average minimum for the most inoffensive radiation is like 30 years, which is too weak to kill anything right away, it just causes cancer and a bit of mutation. Talking about Hiroshima kind of ****.

The thing is -I- was still on the "currency" page, and those who have played Metro 2033 and Metro: Last Light would know that in both games, pre-nuclear war military-grade 5.56x45mm NATO bullets are the currency, so my point was that there's no way I'd support using the same or a too similar currency as an already released and known game franchise.

As a -craftable- item, I doubt it'd be easy to craft, but possible. To irradiate a bullet enough to make it really effective you'd have to go too near a radiation hotspot, the kind of hotspot that even the best Hazmat suit would have problems against, that or use KGB-like radiation poisoning techniques to poison the bullet. And as Elite said, keeping it with you would kill you instead of the enemy anyway. That is also a big point against using it as currency, BTW.

And it is also a big pro to use Iodide potassium tablets AKA Iodine anti-radioactive tablets! SmileTwo!
BTW ELITE STOP COPYING MEEEEE.

Now on to the other list...
Zombie bones would be too radioactive or otherwise chemically or biologically dangerous. Talking about the bone of a corpse that walks the earth after a nuclear war.
Speakers, what would you plug them to? Also too big.
Car tires, too weak and too big.
Although your point on paper is good, it is exactly that point the reason why it would not work as a currency. Too weak and scarce.
Star Wars CD, what would you use to view them? Also too big and too weak. I still cry whenever I see my Age of Mythology disk 1 that broke because I left it as the bottom disk in a pile of disks.
Clocks... hum... digitals are obviously a no, but I can't see anything against analog clocks. Even if they are a bit broken or not working, a clock is still valuable. Specifically pocket clocks and wrist watches.
Working laptops would be too cumbersome, big, weak and valuable to work as currency.
Badges, can't see anything against them. Perhaps a bit too big? Too heavy? But not enough to take it out as a viable option.
Medals would be the same as badges, except that not as heavy.
Ribbons... perhaps too weak?
Pencil erasers, way too weak. You could lose it's integrity while it is inside your pocket.
Door knobs, perhaps too heavy and big.
Empty gun magazines, I dunno. Unless it's pistol mags, they're certainly too big. And to be honest they're more useful as, well, you know, magazines, than anything else. Imagine that you need a filled extra magazine, you fill one of your empty ones, use a few rounds, and then to purchase something you gotta empty it, and if by any chance you need it again you're ****. Currency is currency because it's small (coins fit by the fistful in your pockets, bills do too, specially when folded!), light (how much does a bundle of bills weight? Almost nothing. Coins are heavier but still quite light), easy to use (self explanatory) and convenient (self explanatory).
You know what fits that description? Iodide potassium tablets :o!

About the Star Wars CD, I'm a star wars fan, so ye, Iodide Potassium Tablets, hold a problem for currency and as an item, because seriously, if it's a nuclear apocalypse, wouldn't that item be scarce because, the facilities to make those have been destroyed AND it's probably been used by ALOT of survivors right after the apocalypse, so that means the Anti-Rad Tablets would be quite rare after the war. Thus eliminates it as a currency. AND on a side note, the tablets would be one to kill for because those pretty much save lives.
And I have another list fo currency.
Plastic
Cardboard
Styrofoam?
Scrap Metal ( there would be plenty of these )
Weed
Pots
Clay pots
Ball pens
Wood
Bark
Rubber ( By that I mean elastic rubber bands as in one rubber band = 1 $ (something like that) And a broken one = 2 quarters )
Sap
Chewing Gum?
Buttons ( Would affect the condition of your clothing if you decide to remove them from your clothes in G.P )
Er, nails?

Since Iosif made all of my previous points invalid for currency, I have another list for him to check for errors.
But all in all I think a button for currency is the winner here, because, even if there are many kinds of buttons out there, they could (possibly) be put into different values, like let's say a plastic button = 1 $, a metal/bronze/silver/gold/whatever button = 5 $, and so on so forth AND, since there are a lot of clothing in G.P that ( probably ) survived the war, you can still pull of buttons from the clothes and sell the button less clothing for even more buttons. And since all the facilities for making buttons have been destroyed, there may be a limited yet vast quantity of buttons in the wasteland. Plus they don't weigh that much.

Iodide Potassium tablets are stored in the millions precisely in case of a nuclear war, you know. Plus the people you suggest that would take them would've probably died before even buying them. A Nuclear war is too sudden. The estimate for MAD (Mutual Assured Destruction) is just 10 minutes for the most modern ICBMs.
Plastic, too variated. It'd have to be cutted to some shape like coins, which to make it efficient would need machinery, so yeah.
Styrofoam is too weak.
Scrap metal is more useful as a crafting material.
Weed isn't that easy to get anywhere outside of certain specific places of the world. Plus come on, junkies would smoke it all in a jiffy.
Pots and Clay pots are too big and certainly too weak.
Ball pens are too weak.
Wood same thing as plastic. Plus works better as a crafting material.
Bark is too weak.
Rubber bands, huh. Nothing against them.
Sap is a fluid, therefore too difficult to store and exchange.
Chewing gum, it'd definitely lose a lot of eating valuable after the event, so it'd work too.
Buttons, although their use in clothing is quite vital in all climates, they would definitely work as currency. Though for that matter, you might as well use casino chips. Same size and weight as a big button, easy to carry and pocket and already have a currency designation. And yes, casino chips are quite abundant, specially because they don't have any other use. Lots of people buy casino chips to play poker with their friends, and casinos obviously have storages filled with them. Though that'd mean that those who control Las Vegas' casinos are **** rich as ****, but that's not different from today.

I think casino chips, rubber bands, buttons and chewing gum are suitable for currency.

Yeah, but the buttons, rubber band and chewing gum are equally ours.
Mine because I suggested it, yours because you proved the points except for the buttons, which I claim all copyright for, both of us claim rubber band and chewing gum equally and you get the casino chips as your own whole copyright

I have a suggestion, if there are nuclear bunkers and let's say that they have a laboratory in there and when entered, you can find scientists ( who are protected by military personnel who allow people to pass only if they've been subjected to decontamination and crap ) that are willing to buy anything valuable from you for money. And that there will be a mission where the scientists will ask you to clear out a second nuclear bunker which is full of undead military personnel, where if you do it, you get a special Hazmat suit from a scientist who recently died from eating too much bacon.

Ok. First, any nuclear bunker with scientists and guns would undoubtly have military personnel, who would by no reasons hand over any gun. Second, clarify in the second bunker, is it full of ALIVE military personnel or is it full with DEAD military personnel? Or UNDEAD military personnel?

I'm here to help mate. Just keep thinking and I'll keep writing arguments to find any flaws. Eventually ya'll reach events that make sense in a forsaken world.

Just to note, even though the fastests ICBMs take approximately 10 minutes to arrive, the United States is the country with most nuclear bunkers in the world, including huge ass bunker facilities filled with personnel at all times (yes, military personnel. Talking about NORAD command centers and such), so if say, you found a map or directions pulled from the ALL MIGHTY SEEING MYTHICAL GOOGLE MAPS THAT EXTINGUISHED WITH THE FLAMES AND RADIATION OF OUR DOOM, ehem, it's perfectly possible to find a nuclear bunker. Keep in mind they have all kinds of mechanical locks on those big ass doors.

Also, a lot of houses built during the Cold War have little nuclear bunkers in the basement.

Funny how I make ideas and Iosif proves out the flaws in them. OnKnees

Anyway, I've been thinking about the museums again, and I kinda realize that there might be some mighty and somewhat functional cannons in there like mortar and artillery, which as I said with the antique cars idea, can be refitted and fixed again to make place able artillery around the base that you built ( MMO ), or the place you have found shelter in and planning to stay there for a long period of time. AND the fact there are old planes in some museums, the planes can be looted for Pilot caps, goggles, suit, aviator sunglasses and etc., although you can't pilot them ( I mean seriously pilot a plane and kamikaze yourself just to kill a shetload of zombies? ) they can still be looted for loads of scrap metal.

To be honest there are many possibilities in the museum.. Like authentic replicas of a katana, a Luger Pistol that works, Samurai Armor, Replicas of Clone Trooper Armor from Starwars, WWII-Era helmets, Shields and maces, swords, axes, hatchets, tomahawks, bows and arrows, canoes, models of ships that are quite heavy, real life submarines ( naval museums ), old computers that can be broken down to a whip made from wires and circuit boards, mannequins that can be dressed up to look like you and be used as bait and even more.

Oh and dibs on all of what I just said.
